What better way to ponder lifes meaning then hearing and seeing The King Of Soul James Brown sing and dance to hot pants...I dare you not to get up and boogie..or at least smile.
I've been blessed to be lakeside a few days a week this summer. I'm I chick born in the urban burbs, yes there is such a thing, and generally a full time New York City dweller. NYC is the place I call home. The place I park my slippers, if I had any, the place I've known for better or worse over twenty years.
My time at the lake is nearly over. I'll be saying goodbye to walking barefoot on the grass, the rowboat and most of all my animal pals. I love these beasts. The chipmunks, the beavers, dears. all my bird buds. Especially my groundhog pal I've named Neddybear. He is adorable and is in a bromance with my cat Tiggs. Last week I was surprised by seeing another groundhog that looked like my Neddy. How I knew it was not Ned was because Ned was chomping pieces of an apple in the front and the other was chomping an apple under the apple tree that has no apples in the back yard. Had I been a victim of The Parent Game. Were they doing a Patty Duke?? Identicle impish cousins?? NAH! One was a bully and chased the other away. I tried to take close up pics to see if only one had the mole, but no luck. They both had it in the same place. All I know is there are more then one groundhog on this taco stand of land and I love em all. The family of raccoons come waddling by in the PM. They shun the bird seed and go off in search of better food. They must be getting some good food in the neighborhood because they all look like they are sci fi monster raccoons.
Its funny when the birds see me come out to feed them. There's a very loudmouthed bluejay that lets every bird within ten miles know grub time. Its loud but I love it. I see the tiny chipmunks chow and store the grub in their cheeks like the best vacuum on the market. I know the finches are chatty. The sparrows (I call them the churpchills because the males markings remind of Winston) are brave. The Elvis looking tiny bird can really belt one out for a little dude. He even has the chubby Elvis belly. I get small woodpeckers that peck their beeks against the wooden beam before they dig in for a sunflower seed. Theres one beautiful big woody woodpecker that comes around every now and then. The cardinals are a riot after the rain. Their foofy pompadours are slicked down. Yes, even birds can have bad hair days. Right now I'm surrounded by the sounds of crickits, the chirping of the finches, the whirly bird sound of a mourning dove, and all these sounds that I am so lucky to hear. They may not know this but they all have been my friends. Sweet companions that go about their lives the way nature has intended.
As far as my water pals go I can't forget the sweet and beautiful swan couple that come around every day. They make a nest right across the way from this yard.. She sits patiently for a couple months waiting for her eggs to hatch, but that day never comes and hasn't for the past five years. Somehow she knows its time to get off the nest and go back to traveling the lake with her guy. There are also loads of ducks, just little babies. They paddle along minding their own beeswax. Life is not without peril for these guys. There are predator birds, animals. When a hawk or eagle is around, the crows, bluejays and little birds chirp their heads off in warning and to send it away. The hawks and eagles are majestic birds. They are hunters because of nature only. Humans are the only species that kill for fun, or hate or a deer head or whatever. I just go out and let the hawk or eagle know that I'm there and if they have to eat a bird please don't pick on one here. Funny, they end up leaving.
Then we come to the ultimate peril. Road kill. I turn my head anytime I see one because I think I probably knew it. As Summer turns to Fall, not only do I notice the leaves change from glorious green, to the bright oranges and reds and yellows, I notice the difference in the amount of critters in the beginning of summer to the beginning of fall. RIP my pals. The cycle of life in front of my face every day.
I can go two or three days without seeing a human being. I can be a grunge queen and kick around in shorts or sweats and tees with my hair up like pebbles Flintstone with not one brush point of makeup touching my face. I can eat only cereal and cookies then kick back with a coors light or a glass of wine. I can be this me. The talking to animals Dr Doolittle wannabe. At peace with myself and all these creatures and their sounds and presence. At all times I have my faithful fur baby Tiggs at my side or at Neds or is it Ted or Fred?? This is truly a great respite from the city. No Hamptons where the people you don't want to see in the city you certainly don't want to see when you are on vacation. There are no airs here. No mansions on the beach, no trendy restaurants. No I do this and what do you do. Just a hi, nice to meet you..Just people.
I'm back to the city of 8 million people tomorrow. The me that walks the sidewalk, befriends dogs and sometimes their owners. I'll say "hi ' to the people in my life in one way or another. City Grace, Lake Grace. We are one in the same. As I type I am 100% at peace with this moment. One I'll never ever have again as time ticks on. I am blessed, I am grateful and for now I am whole.
Now get on up wherever you may be and get dancin, Hot Pants!!!
true stories of tinseltown: I talk to Author Stone wallace about his great Biography of George Raft. He was a Great dancer, a lover, A Mob not wanna be and a real pussYcat....
I speak to Author Stone Wallace about his great biography of George Raft- The Man That Would Be Bogart. I was not the biggest George Raft fan but I thought he was fascinating. After reading his bookI felt I knew George and liked him a lot. He was a complex man. He was sensitive, insecure and one hell of a dancer. We talk his hardscrabble upbringing in Hells Kitchen. How he got into dancing. When and how he got into movies. The broads and dames he loved and lost. I truly felt sad for George. His hanging with gangsters made his life harder then need be. My armchair shrink thinks he wanted away from these guys but was afraid of what they might do. We talk it all.
Thanks so much to Stone Wallace for coming on the show.
Thanks so much to the listeners. Even if you don't really care about George Raft I think you would like learning about him.

True stories of tinseltown: LEAH WILLIAMS JOINS ME AGAIN AND WE TALK WOMEN THAT LOVE TOO MUCH IN CLASSIC FILMS…
Leah Williams from the fabulous blog Cary Grant Won't eat you and facebook site of the same name joins me again to discuss women who love too much in Classic Movies. There are SOOOOOO many but we each got to choose three. We had to be sure the other had watched them. It was so hard to choose only three and which three but we did it. We talk roles by Gene Tierney, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Irene Dunne and Rita Hayworth. It was lots of fun. I want to do another women who love to much and a men who love too much in classic films. There are lots of guys that have been mezmerized by screen dames that are not exactly women you bring home to mother. See if you agree with our choices..
Thanks so much to Leah. She is a very busy woman but she found th time to join me again.

I talked to the fabulous Feisty and adorable Television Icon Ed asner and now we are engaged...Who knew??
Donnie could not be at my interview with Ed Asner so I got Ed all to myself. I adore Ed and was beyond thrilled to speak to him. We talked about Ed being the only man to have won seven nighttime Emmys, five were for playing Lou Grant. I found out he really did like spunk. We talked MTM, and all the gang, his real life date with Mary, his activism, his toes and my worrying that I could not do the Heimlich maneuver long distance as Ed was chomping on werthers. He was funny, smart, adorable and somehow in between we got engaged. If you love Ed Asner this is for you.
Thanks so much to Ed for coming on the show. I'm waiting for my engagement ring in the mail. He is a big ole teddy bear!!
Thanks most to the listeners. I've got a motley crew of guests coming up. I think you'll like them.

THE BROADS HAD A FREE SATURDAY NIGHT SO WE DRANK VINO AND TALKED SPACE FORCE, THE DONALD, ANIMAL RIGHTS AND THE RESULTS OF APOLLOS DNA..So WHO's the baby daddy...
We had an impromptu show because Michelle was family free and I was home just drinking some vino. We talk about women being swindled by creeps they fall in love with, either in person or most often on line. If he seems too good to be true..BEWARE. If some dude starts sniffing for dough amscray. We talk animal rights, Donalds Space Force, the royal minute, white supremicists, Britain names a lonliness minister. How sad. lonliness is at epidemic preportions all over the world. Ironic that we have social media, so many ways to contact peiople yet people are so lonely. Social media makes it very easy to avoid in person contact with people. I'm amazed at when there is person tobperson in the same room people text and constantly check their phone. Good for Theresa May for trying to help with this very important issue. We talk lots more..
Thanks for listening,
Grace and Michelle

I TALKED TO STEVE, A HUGE CLASSIC MOVIE FAN ABOUT THE WAVISHING KAY FRANCIS< HIS TOP TEN PICKS FOR FAVE ACTRESSES, ONE I HAD NEVER HEARD OF...JUST GENERAL CLASSIC MOVIE FABULOUSNESS..
I talked to Steve, a true lover of Classic movies. It was just two huge classic movie buffs yakking away. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Steve knows his Kay Francis, who I also really love and we talked her movies. Some obscure but always worth a watch to see what fabulous frock Kay would be in. WE chatted a bit about a four time co star of Kays, Ricardo Cortez. Ricardo, real name Jacob Krantz was born in NYC to Austrian immigrants. Ricardo is Steves fave creep of precodes. Mine is Warren William. We also talked Steves top ten of his favorite actresses and bet me mine would not be the same. He was right. We had a couple of the same faves, he had one actress I had never heard of. All in all it was a fun chat with a fellow fan.
Thanks so much to Steve for coming on the show. I felt like we were old pals. I met him on my facebook page www.facebook.com/truestoriesoftinseltown. I am so happy to have him as a contributor. I had the pleasure of talking to Gary Meece two times. We have 2 podcasts devoted to this still contoversialcase after 25 years. The poor boys that were murdered at age 8 would now be 33. Its such a horrible story.
Gary wrote a book I highly recommend
The Case Against the West Memphis 3 Killers: A Condensed, Revised Version of Blood on Black and Where the Monsters GoWe talk why he thinks that Damien Echols, Jessie Miskelley and Jason Baldwin are guilty. We talk the other suspects and the Alford plea. There is so much info out there on this website http://callahan.mysite.com/wm3/img/exh500.html. This case became a cause celeb after the HBO documentary Paradise Lost. HBO did two other documentaries on the case. West Of Memphis was produced by Damien and one of his famous supporters Peter Jackson. There was a movie made that was pro West Memphis 3, not guilty and numerous books pro and con. Gary knows much about this case.
Thanks to Gary for coming on show TWICE because of missing moments. You are a doll!!
I'd like to say the names of the three boys that were brutally murdered. Stevie Branch, Michael Moore and Chris Byers that had their lives brutally taken from them. It breaks my heart. Often times the only three mentioned are Damien, Jessie and Jason. Its all about these three i8 year old boys.
Thanks for listening. Part two will be up a little later.
